Whether visiting family or looking for a weekend getaway, the best Lake Travis resorts and hotels offer a view of the breathtaking beauty of the Texas hill country.
There’s nothing quite like fresh sheets someone else changes for you every day, the smell of a luxury pool, and breakfast you don’t have to cook but you can still eat while wearing pajamas. And there’s nothing like visiting Lake Travis, the cleanest lake in Texas, with gorgeous limestone hills, calm waters, greenery as far as the eye can see, and kind, relaxed locals.
Below are our favorites - not just the best resorts in Lake Travis, but hotels and hilltop lodges:
No list is complete without this gem, which for decades was the only option on the entire lake. It’s famous for pampering anyone into complete relaxation with beautiful rooms and private outdoor terraces with stellar lake views. The resort offers a modern fitness center, wine bar, three luxurious swimming pools (and a Kid Zone!), a swim up bar, and even a weekend coffee house.
The full service spa offers deep tissue massages, hot stone massages, aromatherapy massages, facials, peels, wraps, body scrubs, reflexology, and more. Couples massages are available, and you’ll feel like royalty after time in their beautiful steam shower.
One of the most unique parts of this amenity-packed resort is the “Sensory Direct” option, which brings the private dining experience directly to your room so you can eat in a high-end robe while enjoying the most beautiful view of Lake Travis.
The Miraval has recently been updated and renovated and is now a serious luxury contender on Lake Travis. With 50 new guest rooms, a brand new cafe and smoothie bar, a second saline infinity pool and yoga pavilions, Miraval is a breath of fresh air.
Relax to the max at their spa which offers 24 treatment rooms, a dry sauna, hot tub, and essential oil massage treatments. They’re well known for their high-quality dining which offers locally sourced organic foods and incredible scenery. Miraval is only 15 miles away from downtown Austin and immediately near championship golf courses, tennis courses, as well as the Lakeway Marina.
Vintage Villas sits on top of a massive bluff with a view of the most popular sailing spot on Lake Travis and is a spectacular location for sunset viewing. It is also an Event Center, which is well run and popular for weddings and conferences alike.
What we love about Vintage Villas is how private it feels - all rooms are configured into three separate villas, and the rustic decor is complemented by unique art and antiques in every guest room. The meticulously landscaped acreage and golf-green grass make for a stunning view in combination with the lake view as a backdrop.
Okay look, sometimes we just want a trusted hotel and are just here to visit our ailing aunt without all of the spa services or fancy pants treatment. Hampton Inn & Suites Lakeway is a reasonably priced option that has everything you expect in a hotel - microwave, mini-fridge, televisions with menus that tell you about the nearby golfing on a loop, desks and chairs, and so forth. It also offers amenities not all hotels may feature, like an outdoor pool, fitness center, free breakfast, and free wifi.
What does help this option to stand out is that it does offer hill country views in some suites, but more importantly, it is pet friendly. PET. FRIENDLY. If that’s your requirement, stop looking and get to booking.
Mountain Star is a smaller hotel on RR620, closer to the endless shopping and dining options of the Hill Country Galleria than any other option on our list. Although it’s not on the lake proper, you’ll see a sea of green in the form of cedar trees on rolling hills.
It’s owned and operated by locals and is a Lake Travis classic - it’s where we all went when our parents were getting a divorce or our houses burnt down, and it’s where we all had visiting family stay when we didn’t want a full house.
They offer free wifi, free continental breakfast, daily housekeeping, and is of course the most reasonably priced option in the area. Whether you’re visiting family near the lake, or are coming down to enjoy water sports or golf, it’s easy to book this valuable option.
If you want to feel like you’re at home, circa 1994, The Shores at Lake Travis is your best bet. With classic puffy-armed vintage sofas and crimson and hunter green comforters, this is a throwback that will have you feeling like it’s Thanksgiving back in the day and it’s time to gnaw some turkey. We mean this in literally the best way possible.
Offering privacy in a more condo setting than a hotel, you’ll enjoy a full home with a traditional kitchen, beds, and full sized bathrooms. But what is most important about this option is that it’s on 500 acres of park land and there are 80 million billion gajillion deer that want you to feed them, some by hand. You can’t get this level of nostalgia and nature anywhere else on the lake!
